The Carpal Tunnel Diagnostic Center at Neurological Associates of Nevada is dedicated to the research and diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome and other neuropathies. Our physician, Dr. Richard Lee has been practicing neurology for 30 years and has focused a great deal of his time with a concentration in neuromuscular disorders.

Evaluation, Diagnosis and Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

A trained neurologist, such as Dr. Lee, will evaluate a patient through careful examination to determine if a patient has the clinical findings of carpal tunnel syndrome. Diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome is confirmed by performing certain tests to detect damage to the median nerve.

  1. Tinel's test - The physician taps the median nerve at the wrist. A tingling response in one or more fingers indicates damage to the median nerve.

  2. Phalen's test - The patient puts the backs of the hands together and bends the wrists for one minute. Tingling of the fingers indicates damage to the median nerve.

  3. Electromyography - Electrodes are placed on the forearm and electrical current is passed through the patient. Measurements on how fast and how well the median nerve transmits messages to muscles indicate if there is damage to this nerve.
Our physician will examine the median nerve to determine if the disorder is causing the symptoms. If necessary, we work with highly qualified orthopedic and pain management physicians in the area that can assist in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. If indicated, surgery options can be explored with our network of orthopedic physicians. In those situations, results from surgery have proven to be very effective in relieving symptoms in severe cases. If you have been experiencing symptoms consistent with those indicated for carpal tunnel syndrome, don’t delay in making an appointment with our office.
